Community Wellness

COGI participates in various activities to “Improve the Health of Our Communities”. Things such as health fairs, school based programs, life skills education, and healthcare professional trainings are just an example of ways we reach out to the community. All that what do is based upon the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) approved intervention services. COGI is also a proud supporter and partner of the Schuylkill County Tobacco Free Youth Coalition who celebrates its 10th Anniversary in 2007.

Through funding from the American Legacy Foundation, COGI is currently working on Project Fresh Start. This project is being conducted in partnership with Head Start programs. Project Fresh Start began in August 2007 in partnership with Child Development Inc. in Schuylkill County and had the goal of reducing children´s exposure to secondhand smoke by establishing smoke free home policies. The project is currently being done in all Head Start centers in Schuylkill County. The program is expanding in the Fall of 2008 to Northumberland and Columbia Counties.
