Schuylkill Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative (LETI)
The Schuylkill County Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative (LETI) is a harm reduction approach that seeks to accomplish the goals of reducing criminal behavior and improving public safety by connecting individuals suffering from a substance use disorder with treatment and other community resources.
GOALS:
- Reduce deaths, overdoses, and crime associated with drug addiction by getting individuals with substance use disorders into treatment.
- Reduce stigma associated with substance use disorders.
- Strengthen police-community relationships by encouraging individuals with a substance use disorder seek help from law enforcement.
- Train law enforcement officers in how better to help individuals suffering from a substance use disorder.
- Connect individuals with organizations that are ready, willing, and able to provide help.
INELIGIBILTY:
An individual seeking help may be ineligible to participate in the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative if:
- They have outstanding arrest warrants.
- The individual does not appear amenable to the program (i.e., violent upon initial contact, or a threat to self or others).
- The individual is under the age of 18 and there is no parental or guardian consent.
- Any other factors exist as may be determined by the LEO or Supervisor to exclude eligibility.
