Strengthening Schuylkill County Communities (S2C2)

Through funding received from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), COGI is pleased to offer programming under S2C2.    In this project, Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth 10-14 is being offered to families who reside in the following school districts:

    • Minersville Area School District
    • Pottsville Area School District
    • Schuylkill Haven Area School District
    • St. Clair Area School District

Through this program, families participate in a 7 week cohort where they receive instruction in Strengthening Families 10-14, an evidenced based curriculum designed by Iowa State University Extension.   Parents and Youth are separated for the first hour to participate in sessions specific to either parents or youth and then everyone reunites for the second hour to do the family section.  Families receive a meal prior to the start of each session, receive incentives such as gas cards or items to use during “family time” at home, as well as learn a variety of communication skills.   Childcare is offered for siblings under the age of 10 at no cost as a way to remove the barrier of childcare needs to participate.
